BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is a mechanical dysfunction of the the inner ear part of the vestibular system. The vestibular system helps you detect head position and motion and allow you to react properly when you are moving. However, when calcium carbonate “crystals” get dislodged in the inner ear, they can disrupt your head’s ability to accurate measure movement and will produce vertigo (room spinning dizziness) as a result.
Learn all about BPPV below:
The Epley Manoeuvre (Treatment for BPPV)
The Epley Manoeuvre is one of many different treatment techniques to correct BPPV.
As there are over a dozen different sub-types of BPPV, it is important that the correct treatment technique is applied. Patients should be appropriately assessed and provided with a diagnosis in order to select the correct canalith repositioning manoeuvre.
